2 Students Suspected Of Having Police Hostage During Labor Day Action In Semarang Arrested
JAKARTA - The police arrested two students who were suspected of holding members of the National Police hostage during the Labor Day action in Semarang City, Central Java, on May 1, 2025, which ended in chaos.
The Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Kombes Pol. Artanto confirmed the arrest of the two students.
"That's right, the handling at the Semarang Polrestabes," he said in Semarang, Wednesday, was confiscated by Antara.
According to him, both of them were secured at their boarding house in Tembalang, Semarang City, on May 13, 2025.
The two students were charged with Article 333 of the Criminal Code concerning seizing a person's independence and Article 170 of the Criminal Code concerning beatings.
The identities of the two Diponegoro University (Undip) students in Semarang are MRS (20) and RSB (20), respectively.

Meanwhile, the attorney for two Undip Semarang students, Kairul Anwar, said that assistance had been carried out during the examination at the Semarang Polrestabes.
He said the two students had been named suspects and detained.

Previously, the police dispersed the action to commemorate Labor Day in front of the Central Java Governor's Office on Jalan Pahlawan, Semarang City, on Thursday, May 1, 2025 afternoon, after allegedly being provoked by a group of people dressed in black among the workers.
A group of people dressed in black then joined the mass action.
Chaos broke out after the labor group would disperse after completing the action.
