Menkum: President Prabowo Has Communication To Political Parties On The Asset Confiscation Bill
JAKARTA - Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas said President Prabowo Subianto had communicated with the general chairmen (ketum) of political parties (parpol) regarding the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU).
"The Minister of State Secretary has also said that the President has communicated with all the general chairmen of political parties," Supratman said when met at his office, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 14, as reported by Antara.
He admitted that the President had expressed support for the completion of the Asset Confiscation Bill. However, he said, the legal product is a political product so that communication with the political party chairman is considered important.
"So, let this process be completed first so that it can smooth and while the Ministry of Law can have a dialogue with friends in parliament," he said.
According to the Minister of Law and Human Rights, currently there are two options related to the continuation of the Asset Confiscation Bill, which is to remain a government initiative or become an initiative of the DPR. This will be decided immediately in the preparation of the upcoming legislation program (prolegnas).
"I have asked the Director General of Legislation (Dhana Putra) who is responsible for managing the National Legislation Program to coordinate with the legislative body as soon as possible in Parliament," he said.
The Asset Confiscation Bill has been rolling for almost two decades, since it was first proposed by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) in 2008.
The bill was included in the National Legislation Program in 2023. The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo in the same year also sent a presidential letter (surpres) of the Asset Confiscation Bill as a bill proposed by the government to be discussed together with the DPR RI.
When asked about the continuation of the presidential decree, Supratman said, "That must be Presidential. If it is related to the old surpres, it must be stated that it is a carryover (operan), in the National Legislation Program it must be listed as a carryover".
Previously, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that the government was currently still discussing the substance of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) so that there was no plan to issue a new presidential decree to the DPR RI.
"It has not yet reached the stage of issuing the presidential decree. We are intensively communicating about the fundamental substance in the bill," said Prasetyo Hadi, who is also the Presidential Spokesperson in response to reporters' questions in Jakarta, Friday (9/5).
