COVID-19 In Singapore Soars Again, Reaching 14,000 Cases Since Early May
JAKARTA - Singapore is again facing a surge in COVID-19 cases. The spike reached 14,200 cases of COVID-19 in the period 27 April to 3 May 2025.
This figure also increased from 11,100 cases in the previous week. During the same period, the average hospitalization due to COVID-19 also increased dramatically.
During the same period, the average daily hospitalization of COVID-19 increased from 102 to 133, but the average daily cases in intensive care units decreased from three to two cases, said Singapore's Ministry of Health and the Infectious Diseases Agency, quoted from CNA, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Singapore's Ministry of Health also said that hospitals in the country were capable of dealing with the increase in COVID-19 cases. They have also predicted that the spread of the infectious disease will indeed occur throughout the year.

"Like other endemic respiratory diseases, periodic COVID-19 waves are expected to occur throughout the year," he said.
Meanwhile, currently the COVID-19 variants circulating in Singapore are LF.7 and NB.1.8, covering more than two-thirds of the locally sequenced cases. Both variants are the turn of JN.1, which is a variant of the current COVID-19 vaccine formulation.
It was stated that the two variants had no indication of transmission or caused more dangerous disease than the initial variant.
"There is no indication that the variant circulating locally is more contagious or causes more severe disease, compared to the variant previously circulating," he concluded.
