Jakarta Declaration Encourages Humanitarian Resolution For Palestine And Minority

JAKARTA - Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI Mardani Ali Sera chaired the Meeting session of the Special Standing Committee on Political Affairs and Foreign Relations of PUIC which discussed support for Palestine and minority groups, both Muslim and non-Muslim minorities.

Mardani explained that the conclusion from the discussion at the session would be taken as one of the recommendations for the 19th PUIC resolution which would be named the Jakarta Declaration.

"So this political and foreign affairs committee is one of the cores of PUIC, we discuss it from Palestine to minority," Mardani told reporters Wednesday, May 14.

"The Palestinians have three issues, about the condition of Palestine, about assistance to Palestine as well as surrounding countries. There is Jordan, there is Egypt, there is Lebanon which is also affected (impact)," added Mardani.

Apart from the Palestinian issue, according to Mardani, there are also 10 resolutions about minority that have been carefully discussed in this PUIC forum.

"Alhamdulillah, the condition was explained, the road map was made and what diplomatic steps were taken earlier. The spirit of humanity, humanity, the spirit of solidarity is very visible from all representatives present," said Mardani.

In addition, continued Mardani, the committee also agreed that conflicts such as India-Pakistan will be resolved with a diplomatic approach that prioritizes peaceful.

"Don't put forward an approach that will actually create Chaos. Earlier there was a story about Uighurs, it was also discussed and we said China was not something that should always be fought against, but we forced China to sit down together to give equal treatment to our brothers and sisters in Uighur," he explained.

"There is also the story of Boko Haram, it is carrying out continuous terror against our non-Muslim brothers in Nigeria. So one by one it was appointed, and we are happy that Indonesia is the place of spirit of humanity and spirit of solidarity," continued Mardani.

In the discussion forum held on Tuesday, May 14, that afternoon, Mardani saw the spirit of humanity and solidarity of the countries present. "But don't let this just become a spirit but it must be transformed into our actions. Not only for Muslim groups but non-Muslims who are minorities. We have to have a real action," Mardani told the delegation.

Mardani also said that PUIC is expected to continue to transmit the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood to the world community, especially for Muslims who live in countries with a non-Muslim majority that sometimes Islamophobia issues arise. This includes non-Muslims who live in countries with the majority of Muslim population such as OKI countries.

According to Mardani, the perspective on marginalized people needs to be improved and become a humanitarian-based and solidarity-based resolution.

"Islamophobia is one of the things we raise, including Kristenphobia and others. That's wrong," he said.

"Islamophobia is wrong, because it is not only Muslims who are victims, but the perspective that considers other parties to be lower, weaker and worse than us, that must be corrected. Therefore, our resolution is the basis of humanity, humanity and solidarity," concluded Mardani.

On another occasion, members of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Verrell Bramasta and Surya Ula Utama (Uya Kuya) became representatives of Indonesia in one of the sessions of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) agenda or conferences of the Parliamentary Association of countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI). Both of them encourage real action in solidarity for Palestine.

Verrel Bramasta admits that he is proud that Indonesia is one of the largest Islamic countries in the world to prioritize the basic principles of Islam. One of them is realized by holding a Conference on Parliamentary Unity of countries that are members of the 19th OIC or PUIC in Jakarta.

"Because it is also in accordance with this forum, the unity of Islamic countries and the basic principles for me are efforts, tawakal and istiqomah," said Verrell.

"So our intention is to support Palestine to get independence soon and this is our effort to achieve tawakal and istiqomah," he continued.

According to Verrell, one of Indonesia's advantages is that it has a large population of 240 million people, where this country has collective power. The DPR is said to be able to voice Indonesia's great support for the Palestinian people in this prestigious forum.

"The essence of the parliament is from the word parliament, speaking, so we voice good for forums like this, and now on social media as the fifth pillar of democracy we voice for our brothers and sisters in Palestine," Verrell explained.

Meanwhile, Surya Utama said, Indonesia remains consistent in supporting Palestinian independence as well as the ideals of the proclaimer and first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno.

"Yes, indeed what we are doing now, our attitude has been consistent since our first president, Mr. Sukarno, who did support Palestinian independence," said Surya Utama on the same occasion.

"What we are doing now remains consistent and we together have our solidarity for the end of Palestine's independence," added the legislator who also served at Commission IX of the DPR.
