BYD Seal Electric Sedan Burns In West Jakarta Due To Battery Problem? This Is What BYD Says

Many on social media showed that a BYD Seal electric car caught fire in West Jakarta after being left for three days by the owner in the garage of the house.

On VOI's monitoring on the Instagram/@hujat_mobil_ page, Wednesday, May 14, it was narrated that the car caught fire due to a battery leak when the car was not used, then suddenly emitted white smoke and several times emitted explosions.

"The car in the garage of the house was not used for 3 days and suddenly emitted smoke. It is suspected that it was due to the electric phenomenon in electric car batteries," said Head of the Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Syarifudin, quoted from ANTARA.

Responding to the above questions BYD Indonesia opened its voice. Head of Marketing PR & Government Relations BYD Indonesia Luther Panjaitan, expressed his concern over the conditions that befell BYD consumers and apologized for the inconvenience.

"We are also concerned about the conditions that befell our consumers and apologize for the inconvenience. Based on information in the field there were no casualties in the incident," said Luther, when contacted by VOI, Wednesday, May 14.

The man who is familiarly called Luther said BYD needed clarification that what happened was a smoke incident, not from a fire like several photos circulating.

"We need to clarify that what happened was a smoke incident and did not come from the fire, such as several photos circulating, which showed the reflection of a red car light on the smoke," he said.

He further said, thanks to the support of many parties, the situation could be handled quickly, including BYD having picked up the affected Seal unit.

However, BYD is conducting a thorough investigation in order to identify the problem in detail and find the cause of the problem, through the aftersales team.

"Hopefully we can immediately confirm it to the public," he concluded.
