Jakarta To Jayapura Rain, BMKG Warns Extreme Weather
JAKARTA The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts rain will flush most major cities in Indonesia, Wednesday, May 14, 2025. This forecast is in line with the ongoing transition season which is marked by uncertain weather in various regions.
BMKG forecaster Efa Septiani said that a number of cities on the island of Sumatra are expected to experience light rain, including Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, and Pangkal Pinang.
Moderate rain also has the potential to occur in Palembang, while Bandar Lampung is expected to experience rain accompanied by lightning. The city of Padang is the only city in Sumatra that is predicted to be thick cloudy.
"In general, the islands of Java are still raining, such as in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya which will experience light rain. Meanwhile, Serang, Semarang, and Yogyakarta are forecasted to rain with moderate intensity," said Efa, quoted from ANTARA.
In eastern Indonesia, light rain is predicted to fall in Denpasar and Mataram, while Kupang has the potential to be thick cloudy. Meanwhile, in Kalimantan, light rain is expected to occur in Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin. Palangka Raya has the potential to experience rain accompanied by lightning.
For Sulawesi Island, BMKG predicts thick cloudy weather in Gorontalo, light rain in Palu, Manado, Kendari, and Makassar, as well as heavy rain in Mamuju.

The eastern Indonesia region also does not escape the rain. Light rain is predicted to occur in Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura. In Jayawijaya, rain is predicted to have moderate intensity, while Merauke has the potential to experience heavy rain and Nabire rain accompanied by lightning.
BMKG urges the public to remain alert to potential extreme weather during the transitional season, especially for areas that are forecasted to experience heavy rain and lightning.
