The European Union Considers Russia Just Playing With Ukraine Peace Negotiations
JAKARTA - EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said he was not sure Russia was really interested in creating peace in Ukraine.
"I'm not sure they (Russia) are interested in peace. They are still bombing Ukraine. If they are interested in peace, they can stop it right now," Kallas told reporters at a summit in Copenhagen.
"Russia is clearly playing games, trying to buy time," he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday proposed direct peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. An assistant to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian leaders would only attend negotiations on Ukraine this week if Putin was also present.
Ukraine challenged the Kremlin to show its seriousness in seeking peace.
