ITB Akam Bina Mahasiswinya Yang Ditangkap Karena Meme Kiss Prabowo-Jokowi

JAKARTA The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) appreciates President Prabowo Subianto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo for the suspension of the detention of his student with the initials SSS, who was previously arrested due to uploads by meme Prabowo and the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"ITB expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the National Police Chief, the Deputy Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives, and the Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives," said ITB Director of Communications and Public Relations Nurlaela Arief as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 13.

Nurlaela Arief ensured that ITB would provide guidance and education to her student so that similar actions would not be repeated. In addition, he also expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI

"We also convey our gratitude to the Ministry of Higher Education and Saintek, the Student Parents Association (IOM), the Lawyers Team, the ITB Student Family (KM ITB), ITB Alumni, media colleagues, and the wider community who also oversee this process," said Nurlaela.

He conveyed that SSS had received a suspension of detention by the police and ITB would continue the academic coaching process and the character concerned.

ITB ensures it is committed to educating, assisting and fostering its student. ITB, he said, would teach the student to become a responsible adult, upholding etiquette and ethics in expressing opinions and expression.

As part of educational efforts, according to Nurlaela, ITB will strengthen digital literacy, legal literacy and communication ethics in various media, including by organizing open discussions, public lectures, and coaching programs involving peers, experts and lecturers.

"This is expected to enrich students' insights into constructive freedom in the digital era," he said.

Nurlaela ensured that ITB would continue to encourage all academic community to use the event as a reflection. She said that freedom of expression is the right of every citizen, but must be carried out with the responsibility, legal understanding, and respect for the rights and dignity of others.

"ITB continues to make every effort to create a healthy and quality academic atmosphere, still providing space for freedom of assembly, opinion and expression, conducting critical studies, but still polite, ethical and responsible," said Nurlaela.
