Remembering Eddie Nalapraya's Services, The DKI Provincial Government Opens An Option To Make The School Exkul Silat Pencak
JAKARTA - The Governor-Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung-Rano Karno paid a visit to the funeral home of the late Major General TNI (Ret.) Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya at the Pencak Pencak Silat Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta.
Pramono admitted that he and Rano had met a man who was familiarly called the Father of Pencak Silat Dunia during the 2024 Pilkada. In Pramono's eyes, Eddie Nalapraya was a meritorious Betawi figure.
"I testify that the late Mr. Eddie Nalapraya is really very good, has contributed to the nation and state, has contributed to Jakarta, has contributed to the Betawi people, especially bringing pencak silat to the world," said Pramono, Tuesday, May 13.
Meanwhile, Rano Karno assessed that Eddie Nalapraya was a nationalist figure and unified the nation as a activist in the culture of pencak silat.
To commemorate the services of Eddie Nalapraya, Rano Karno opened the opportunity to require pencak silat activities as extracurricular in Jakarta schools. Remember, this is also Eddie's will when he last met Pramono-Rano.
"He is very hopeful, then maybe we will require the extracurricular pecak silat to enter school, so that it becomes the sport of choice for our children," explained Rano.
"It doesn't mean we forbid other martial arts, please, but pencak silat must be in schools, so that Jakarta culture, Indonesian culture, does not disappear through the pecak silat philosophy. That's what he really hopes for," he added.
Eddie Nalapraya, who was the former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta in 1984-1987, died at Pondok Indah Hospital on Tuesday, May 13 at 09.50 WIB at the age of 93.
