Real Madrid Almost Achieved An Agreement Appointing Xabi Alonso As A Substitute For Ancelotti

JAKARTA - Real Madrid are finalizing an agreement to make Xabi Alonso their new coach as soon as possible.

Los Blancos want Alonso early because they will appear in the 2025 Club World Cup this summer.

According to ESPN reports, Alonso will welcome the opportunity to take over the team early due to a lack of time for a viable pre-season after the tournament, which will end just a month before the 2025/2026 La Liga season begins.

An important requirement for the final deal is approval from Bayer Leverkusen, but it is not expected to be a problem given the good relationship between the two clubs.

Alonso announced on Friday, May 9, 2025, that he would not continue as Leverkusen coach. He said that it was the right moment to move.

Then, on Sunday, May 11, 2025, local time, he said he would announce the next steps soon.

His arrival at the Bernabeu has been approved and is expected to be announced to the public soon. You see, on Monday, May 12, 2025, Carlo Ancelotti was announced as the new head coach of the Brazilian National Team.

Real Madrid's defeat to Barcelona 3-4 at El Clasico on weekends means the team is on the verge of defeat in the race for the La Liga title, seven points behind the Blaugrana with three games remaining.

Apart from that, Real Madrid almost confirmed another early arrival, namely Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, so the defender can travel to the United States for the 2025 Club World Cup.

The two clubs must agree to the compensation fee as the English player's contract at Anfield expires on June 30, 2025.

Liverpool have asked for a fee to release it, which is around 1 million euros or about 1.1 million US dollars.

With the right-back position already filled, Real Madrid will also seek to strengthen the centre-back and left-back.

The club believes both positions require more quality and extra players, with defense being part of the most vulnerable team of the season.

In the target list, the names of Alvaro Carreras and Dean Huijsen have been discussed even though the price tag is relatively high for both.

Each was valued at 60 million euros and 50 million euros. It was clearly an obstacle and made Real Madrid try to keep other options open.

Another player who is considered tall is William Saliba. Los Blancos has been monitoring the Arsenal player since his loan spell at Marseille in 2021.

However, his contract expires in 2027 and a high transfer fee means having to wait to negotiate with Arsenal within one year, or wait again, until he becomes a free agent.

The addition of players in midfield has not yet been ruled out, to fill the key role lost to Real Madrid, following Toni Kroos' retirement last summer.

It remains to be seen what happens when it comes to departure.

It is estimated that there will be several players leaving. It will also have an impact on the possibility of recruitment even though they did not expect a major overhaul in the squad.
