Italy Open 2025: Emma Raducanu Bend By Coco Gauff

JAKARTA Emma Raducanu's encouraging journey at the Italian Open 2025 had to stop in the round of 16 because she lost against world number three, Coco Gauff.

Raducanu, who is currently ranked 49th in the world, is confirmed to have lifted his suitcase after losing 1-6 and 2-6 against the player from the United States.

"Emma is a tough opponent on any pitch and is always difficult to fight. So, I'm happy with the way I play," said Gauff.

For the first time in his career, Raducanu won three consecutive clay field matches to reach the fourth round in the Italian capital.

However, Gauff is in his best form so that Raducanu also finds it difficult to keep up with his opponent's aggressive game.

Gauff, the finalists of the French Open 2022 and the winner of the US Open 2023, have shown his dominance since the start of the match. He took advantage of topspin punches and consistent service returns to control the game.

"Today I think my forward punch is a big weapon, making me get a lot of short balls and a lot of good points," said Gauff.

This result makes Raducanu expected to rise to world number 42 and consider joining the Strasbourg Open tournament in preparation for the French Open later this month.

Meanwhile, Gauff advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament and will face Russian player Mirra Andreeva, in his bid to win the title in this tournament.
