13 Bodies Of Victims Of Ammunition Explosions In Garut Still At Pameungpeuk Hospital For Identification

The bodies of 13 victims of the expired ammunition explosion are still in the morgue of the Pameungpeuk Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Garut Regency, West Java, until Monday night, May 12. The identification and autopsy process is being carried out by the medical team.

The tragic explosion occurred on Monday morning at around 09.30 WIB in the coastal area of Sagara Village, Cibalong District, Garut, when the TNI destroyed expired ammunition. This incident killed nine civilians and four members of the TNI, a total of 13 people.

Pameungpeuk Hospital, one of the referral hospitals in the southern region of Garut, became the center for handling the victim's body. The atmosphere in the hospital seemed crowded with the families of the victims who were waiting for the identification process, as well as TNI officers and passing medical personnel.

One of the victims' families, Dedi (40), a resident of Pameungpeuk District, said that his nephew, Iyus, was also a victim in the explosion.

"Yes, now waiting for the deceased," said Dedi in a sad tone, quoted by VOI from Antara.

He admitted that he did not expect his nephew to be one of the victims in the incident that occurred during the ammunition destruction process. Iyus is known as a good person and is a native of the south of Garut. "It's true that residents here, people are normal, good," he said.

Until the evening, the Pameungpeuk Hospital has not provided an official statement regarding the results of the identification and condition of each body.

For information, the coastal area of Sagara Village has been used by the TNI as a routine location for the destruction of expired ammunition because the location is far from residential areas. Processes are usually carried out with strict security.

However, this incident is a tragedy that has caused deep sorrow, both for the families of the victims and the surrounding community. Until now, there has been no official explanation from the TNI regarding the exact cause of the explosion or possible violation of security procedures. The authorities are still continuing to investigate and handle the incident.
