BMKG Remembers There Is Potential For Rob Banjr In The Riau Islands On May 13-19, 2025

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Hang Nadim Batam Climatology Station reminded the people of the coastal areas of the Riau Islands to be aware of the potential for coastal flooding or tidal flooding during the period from 13 to 19 May 2025.

BMKG forecaster for the Hang Nadim Batam Climatology Station, Riza Juniarti, in Batam, quoted by Antara, Monday, May 12, said the potential for tidal flooding was due to the full moon phenomenon on May 12, 2025, which increased the maximum sea level.

Based on water level data monitoring and tidal predictions, he said, the prediction of tides is that coastal communities are advised to be aware of the tidal flood phenomenon that has the potential to occur from 13 to 19 May 2025 in several coastal areas in Riau Islands.

Some of these coastal areas, such as Batam City, include the coast of Batu Aji, Batu Ampar, Sekupang, Nongsa, and surrounding areas.

Lingga Regency, covering the coast of West Singkep District, Singkep Pesisir, Senayang and its surroundings.

Then, Karimun Regency includes coastal areas in the Districts of West Kundur, Karimun, Meral, and its surroundings.

Bintan Regency includes the coast of North Bintan District, Sebong Bay, East Bintan, and its surroundings.

Furthermore, Tanjungpinang City includes the coast of Tanjungpinang Kota, Tanjungpinang Barat, Bukit Bestari sub-districts and its surroundings.

"The potential for coastal flooding in general has an impact on community activities around ports and coastal areas, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and land fisheries activities," said Riza.
