The National Police Suspends The Detention Of ITB Students Who Upload Meme Prabowo-Jokowi

The Directorate of Cyber Crime, Bareskrim Polri, has decided to suspend the detention of a student at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) with the initials SSS, who is a suspect in the alleged case of distributing electronic documents containing violations of decency and manipulation of authentic data.

It is known that the suspect SSS uploaded a meme depicting President Prabowo Subianto and the 7th President, Joko Widodo, on the X account.

"Investigators based on their authority have given or suspended the detention of the suspect," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, to reporters quoted on Monday, May 12.

The suspension of detention of the suspect as of Sunday, May 11, was based on a request from the family.

In addition, the granting of a request for a suspension of detention is based on several considerations, one of which is the academic future of the SSS suspect.

"The suspension of detention was given by investigators, of course, underlying the request from the suspect through his legal advisor and from his parents, also based on the goodwill of the suspect and his family to apologize because there has been a commotion," he said.

"This suspension of detention is also given, of course, an underlying on aspects or approaches to humanity and giving the person concerned the opportunity to continue his lectures," continued Trunoyudo.

SSS was previously named a suspect by the Directorate of Cyber Crime, Bareskrim Polri based on police reports Number LP/B/159/III/2025/SPKT Bareskrim Polri dated March 24, 2025. He was arrested on May 6, 2025 for alleged violations of the ITE Law, then began detention since May 7, 2025.

During the investigation process, the police examined three witnesses and five experts, as well as confiscated a number of evidences that had been analyzed through digital forensics. Based on these results, investigators concluded that the evidence was deemed sufficient to determine the suspect and process further law.
