Thousands Of Runners Join Purwokerto Half Marathon 2025

PURWOKERTO - A total of 4,500 runners from various regions in Indonesia participated in the 2025 Purwokerto Half Marathon which was held by the Central Java Provincial Government with the Banyumas Regency Government in Purwokerto, Banyumas.

"They are divided into four categories, namely 21 kilometers which are attended by 1,100 participants, 10 kilometers followed by 1,400 participants, 5 kilometers followed by 1,700 participants, and 300 participants for the 3 kilometer category," said Race Director of Purwokerto Half Marathon 2025 Ronny Yuliananto Kurniawan as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, May 11.

According to him, the prizes contested in the running competition were in the form of coaching money with a total amount of Rp. 116 million for the 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km categories, while for the 3 km category it was not contested because it was only a fun run event or a happy run.

He admitted that the interest of the participants in the 2025 Purwokerto Half Marathon was quite high, as seen from the increase in the number of participants because the previous year's competition was attended by 3,300 participants for three categories (in the 2024 Purwokerto Half Marathon there is no category of 3 km, ed.).

Even for the 21 km category, he said, the number of participants increased by 400 people from the previous year which was attended by 700 runners to 1,100 runners.

"This means that friends from outside Banyumas or Central Java want to try an event that is very challenging, especially for the 21 kilometer category," he explained.

Regarding the implementation of the 2025 Purwokerto Half Marathon, he said he still received input from various parties even though in general the participants gave a positive response.

However, he admitted that in technical departures for the 21 km category, there was a time delay of about seven minutes.

"We apologize to our friends who ran in the 21-kilometer category, but for the 10-kilometer, 5-kilometer, and 3-kilometer categories everything is on time according to the time we have determined," said Ronny.

One of the runners from Yogyakarta, Nurshodiq admitted that this is the first time he has participated in the Purwokerto Half Marathon, although he often participates in similar activities in Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.

According to him, the implementation of the Purwokerto Half Marathon was very memorable because of the conducive situation, the sterile road, and the enthusiasm of the surrounding community who encouraged runners.

"The route is also quite challenging compared to other regions because there was someone who climbed towards Mount Slamet, then at kilometer 15 it just went down," he said, who reached the fastest finish line for the 21 km category with a time of 1 hour 13 minutes.

Meanwhile, a runner from Purwokerto, Tio, admitted that he had participated in the Purwokerto Half Marathon since the event was first held in 2024.

According to him, the 10 kilometer category route is quite challenging because there are routes that go up or down.

"In 2024 yesterday, I joined 10 kilometers but got third place. Thank God I can now go up number one with a travel time of 33 minutes 10 seconds," he said.
