DPR RI Ready To Host PUIC 2025, Puan Affirms The Importance Of Spirit KAA 1955

Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized Indonesia's readiness to host the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC 2025). This parliamentary event for Islamic Cooperation Organizations (OKI) was held at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on May 12, 2025, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of PUIC.

"This is not just an honor, but a strategic momentum. The DPR RI is ready to welcome the delegation and affirm Indonesia's role as a democratic and inclusive motor of diplomacy in the Islamic world," said Puan in Jakarta, Saturday, May 10.

PUIC 2025 has the theme Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience. For Puan, this theme confirms that the resilience of the Islamic world cannot be separated from clean, transparent, and strong governance.

Puan assessed that this forum was not only a matter of hosting, but proof of Indonesia's leadership in parliamentary diplomacy in the Islamic world. "The DPR RI is present as a bridge for dialogue, collaboration, and transformation," he said.

The PUIC Conference will also discuss the main issues of the Islamic world, such as the independence of Palestine, regional peace, and the strengthening of democratic institutions in OIC member countries. "Today's parliamentary diplomacy demands real action. Crucial issues cannot be allowed to be just a discourse," said Puan.

PUIC was founded on June 17, 1999 and headquartered in Tehran, Iran. Indonesia will become the 19th President of the PUIC. The conference is scheduled to be attended by more than 500 participants from 57 OIC member countries and observer countries. A total of 11 parliamentary chairmen and 8 deputy parliamentary chairmen have declared attendance.

Puan assessed that the presence of world parliamentary leaders, including from ASEAN, is strong evidence of Indonesia's position in the global map of Islamic diplomacy. He added that the 2025 PUIC will become a cross-border forum to encourage solution-based diplomacy, not just a ceremony.

This forum is in line with the 70th anniversary of the Asia Africa Conference (KAA) which we just commemorated last April. We must revive the spirit of Bandung in the form of global solidarity between South and South," said the grandson of the Indonesian proclaimer, Bung Karno.

According to him, the 2025 PUIC is a continuation of the struggle of the Asian and African nations in upholding equal sovereignty, justice, and cooperation. Puan also invited the public to participate in the success of this forum.

Spirit Bandung must not stop in history books. This year is the time for us to revive that spirit through PUIC 2025," he said.

Puan emphasized that the DPR RI will ensure that the results of the conference do not stop at the document table, but are followed up through concrete work, strategic networks, and policy consolidation between Islamic parliaments.
