Moltiply Italia Sues Google For IDR 55.2 Trillion In Market Domination
JAKARTA - Moltiply Group SpA, an Italian company that manages the popular price comparison site Trovaprezzi.it, sued Google for 2.97 billion euros. They accuse Google of abusing its dominant position in the market, which has been previously recognized by the European Union Court.
In its lawsuit, Moltiply claims that Google's actions hindered the growth of its subsidiary, 7Pixel, between 2010 and 2017, by prioritizing Google Shopping services. The lawsuit was filed in Milan court, although no further details were provided by Italian media, Corriere della Sera.
A Google spokesperson responded firmly to this claim, calling it a very excessive demand and not reflecting the rapidly growing industry.

"We strongly disagree with this excessive claim of personal compensation that ignores the success and development of this industry," said a Google spokesperson.
In this regard, the European Commission had previously imposed a 2.42 billion euros fine on Google in 2017 for abusing its price comparison services to gain unfair profits over small competitors in Europe. In September 2024, the company lost a final appeal to the fine.
Google claims that the changes made in 2017 following the European Commission's decision have provided results in line with its goals, with the number of price comparison sites in Europe now increasing rapidly, from just 7 to more than 1,550 sites.
