Deputy Minister Calls President Prabowo Targets 10 Indonesian Agricultural Commodities To Be World Number One

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono said President Prabowo is targeting 10 Indonesian agricultural commodities to become the world's number one producers through increasing productivity with support for research, financing and development using modern technology.

"The president has given us instructions, to the Minister (Pertaniman) to prepare 10 commodities to return to our rank one, number one in the world as the producer," said the Deputy Minister on the sidelines of a working visit at the Industrial Crops and Budget Testing Center, Sukabumi, West Java, quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 10.

He said President Prabowo had instructed the Ministry of Agriculture to prepare 10 main commodities such as nutmeg, coconut, rubber, coffee, cocoa, pepper, and garlic to become the world's number one producer.

"That's how we are self-sufficient, meaning that those who are still importing are no longer imports, those who don't import we can export, that's what we want," said Wamenan.

Sudaryono explained that superior commodities such as coffee, chocolate, and fresher plants have great export potential, although they still face low productivity challenges per hectare compared to countries like Vietnam.

President Prabowo, said Wamentan, wants Indonesia's plantation commodities to return to the world's number one position in terms of global production and exports. Even so, he did not specify in more detail the 10 commodities in question.

In addition to targeting self-sufficiency in rice, corn, consumption sugar and consumption salt, the government is also preparing downstream agro sector to increase added value from agricultural products and expand the export market.

He said that currently an investment and financing scheme was being prepared to support the national rejuvenation of plantation crops such as coffee, palm and coconut.

"How much is the investment, now it is calculated because it is not only sufficient research capital but there must be finance, there must be capital, there must be financing that we prepare," he explained.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the readiness of the infrastructure and research results already exist, so what is needed now is only a commitment to carry out the strategic steps that have been designed.

"We have prepared the modules. So God willing, at least in the last quarter of this year (2025) we have started whether it is rejuvenation of coffee, palm, coconut. Continue the yield (of harvest), how to quickly get the body, can we harvest and so on, we are preparing it," explained Wamentan.
