Minister Of Public Works Targets 65 People's Schools To Be Inaugurated By Prabowo Next July
JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo targets as many as 65 People's Schools to be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto in July.
Dody explained, in the first stage, the 65 People's Schools will begin to be executed at the end of this month, of which 65 schools were not built directly, but in the form of renovation of existing schools.
"Phase 1 is just renovating, because the main target in July must be inaugurated by the President," said Dody at the Opening of Regional Consultation (Konreg) of the Ministry of Public Works in 2025 at the Public Works Auditorium, Jakarta, Friday, May 9.
He added that President Prabowo Subianto is targeting the Ministry of Public Works to be able to build 100 People's Schools per year.
The plan is that each school will be built on a land area with a minimum area of 5 hectares.
As for now, Dody claims to have pocketed 135 land locations targeted to start being built by the People's School for the 2026 Academic Year.
"In the meantime, we have completed the location together with friends from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the local government, which is 135 locations and this is targeted for construction to be completed in July 2026," he said.
In line with this, the Ministry of Public Works has also officially formed a People's School Development Task Force that will operate during President Prabowo Subianto's leadership period.
This is as stated in the Decree of the Minister of Public Works (Kepmen PU) Number 446/KPTS/M/2025 and comes into effect on April 11, 2025.

For your information, the People's School Program is designed as an effort by the government to expand access to education for poor and extreme poor families, especially those in Desil 1.
In addition to the implementation at these 65 points, the government is also preparing the construction of People's Schools at 200 additional points which are currently in the survey process by the Ministry of Public Works. These locations are prioritized in areas that have a high poverty rate and land readiness.
