Cak Imin Rejects Dedi Mulyadi's Policy To Send Naughty Children To Military Barrers

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar alias Ck Imin stated that he did not support the West Java (West Java) Provincial Government (Pemprov) policy which sent problematic students to military barracks to undergo education.

"Yes, I don't know, because I also don't understand why the idea," said Cak Imin in Yogyakarta, Friday, May 9, as reported by Antara.

According to him, to educate and discipline children, there is no need to involve the military.

"It doesn't need to be like that," said Cak Imin.

Previously, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi rolled out the idea of sending problematic students to the province with education at the military barracks, which was implemented starting May 2, 2025.

Troubled students who were sent to the TNI headquarters include students suspected of being involved in brawls, smoking, and abusing drugs. They are sent with parental permission and will undergo education no later than two to six months.

When reviewing the implementation of the program in Purwakarta, Saturday, May 3, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said character development for students at the Armed 1/Sthira Yudha/1 Army Headquarters in Purwakarta Regency had a positive impact on increasing student discipline.

"This program (the development of student characters at the TNI headquarters) has a positive impact on increasing student discipline," said Dedi Mulyadi.

He said this disciplinary program had been followed by students from various districts and cities in West Java.

In the future, he said, the program will be expanded to the high school level, including teenagers who have been identified as having violated discipline.
