Bank Indonesia: 38.1 Million MSMEs Already Use QRIS As Of The First Quarter Of 2025

JAKARTA - Deputy Director of the Department of Financial Economy Inclusive and Green Bank Indonesia (BI) Sri Noerhidajati said that 38.1 million MSMEs used the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) to accept payments as of the first quarter of 2025.

"Until the first quarter of 2025, QRIS users, Alhamdulillah, have reached 56.3 million with a volume of 2.6 billion transactions and the QRIS merchants are mostly 38.1 million MSMEs," Sri Noerhidajati said in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 8.

He stated that digitalization is the key to the transformation of MSMEs to be able to increase business competitiveness and resilience, because in the midst of changing times that were so fast MSMEs could not try in the old ways.

He said that the use of technology, from online marketing to payment systems, has proven to increase efficiency, expand market reach, and open new opportunities for business growth.

"The expansion of access to digital finance strengthens economic and financial inclusion for MSME actors. Through innovations such as QRIS, MSMEs get convenience in transacting and entering the national financial system. With this QRIS, MSME transactions that occur can be recorded digitally and structured," he said.

Sri Noerhidajati said that the digitally recorded transaction data could act as a track record for banks to see how the daily cash flow of MSMEs is.

He stated that the data could be a reference for banks and other financing institutions to assess the feasibility of MSME credit because the data is credible and real-time.

His party also encourages the expansion of MSME economic and financial inclusion through the innovation of the QRIS Tap digital payment system which was launched in March 2025.

"Currently (QRIS Tap) is still implemented in some merchants, yes. In the future it will be expanded again," he said.

In addition to digital technology innovation, Sri Noerhidajati said that Bank Indonesia also supports increasing MSME financial inclusion through ease of access to financing.

One of them is through providing Macroprudential Liquidity Incentives (KLM) to banks that have succeeded in achieving the Macroprudential Inclusive Financing Ratio (RPIM) target of at least 5 percent.

He said that banks that are able to meet the MSME financing target will also receive incentives in the form of reducing the minimum mandatory giro obligation.

He said that these efforts were made to increase the level of MSME loans, which in March 2025 only grew 1.95 percent year-on-year (yoy), much lower than the pandemic period which could reach 10 percent yoy.

"With this policy, it is hoped that it will be an incentive for banks to want to channel it to MSME loans," added Sri Noerhidajati.
