Mark Zuckerberg Wants To Replace Human Friends With AI! Get Ready To Have Virtual Friends!

JAKARTA - Mark Zuckerberg envisions a future where AI is the closest friend to humans replacing human connections with algorithmic understanding.

When Mark Zuckerberg built Facebook, the goal was to strengthen relations between college students. But now, that vision is growing in a more controversial direction, even considered almost dystopia. In a stage interview with Stripe President John Collison, Meta CEO shared his views on the digital social future: our friends will be replaced by artificial intelligence.

"I think people will want a system that knows them well and understands them like today's feed algorithm," Zuckerberg said. He also revealed the same thing in a podcast with media analyst Ben Thompson. For people who don't have a therapist, I think later everyone will have an AI," Zuckerberg added.

It is undeniable that AI does offer many benefits. If in the past we had to read dozens of articles or journals to get information, now it is enough to ask AI questions such as ChatGPT, and the answer appears in seconds.

The ability to process natural languages allows AI to understand our questions like a friend. No longer need to play with complicated keywords or Google search filters just ask questions in everyday language.

The AI Revolution Has Already Started

Many people have used AI as a virtual therapist, financial consultant, and even friends. So, Zuckerberg's idea of AI friends isn't really something completely new.

However, not everyone enthusiastically welcomes this idea. Meghana Dhar, a former Instagram executive, quipped, "Platforms that make us feel lonely and always online, now they offer a solution to overcome the loneliness. It feels like the burner is back in a fire suit."

Even so, some experts see the positive side. Stephen Schueller, professor of psychology at the University of California, said, "Most people don't have access to therapists. So, for them the choice is not a chatbot or therapist, but a chatbot or none at all."
