Israeli Attacks Make Yemen's Main Airport Severely Damaged
JAKARTA - The Israeli military launched airstrikes at Yemen's main airport in Sanaa. This is the second attack in two days against the Houthis that carried out a missile attack near Israel's Ben Gurion Airport.
Three people were killed in Israel's latest attack, according to Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV.
Israel warned people to leave the area around Sanaa International Airport before Tuesday's attack, which targeted Houthi infrastructure and "banned the airport".
Witnesses reported there were four attacks on the capital.
Tensions have risen since the Gaza war began, but have risen further since the Houthi missile landed near Israel's Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday, prompting Israeli airstrikes at Yemen's Hodeidah port on Monday.
"A few moments ago, IDF fighter jets (Israeli Defense Forces) attacked and destroyed the Houthi terrorist infrastructure at the main airport in Sanaa, crippling the airport completely," the Israeli military said.
"The attack was carried out in retaliation for the attack carried out by the Houthi terrorist regime against Ben Gurion Airport. The runway, aircraft, and infrastructure at the airport were hit," he said, referring to Yemen airport.
The airport's director-general said on Wednesday, May 7, all flights to and from the airport had been suspended until further notice.
The Israeli attack resulted in "severe damage" at the airport. Three airport sources told Reuters the attack targeted three civilian aircraft, departure terminals, airport runways, and military air bases under the control of the Houthis.
The Israeli military said the airport had become a "major center for the Houthi terrorist regime to transfer weapons and operations."
"Our armed forces operation will continue and Yemen's support for Palestine will only end with the end of aggression and siege of Gaza," Houthi said.
