Extension Of Operational Hours, Cikini Library And PDS HB Jassin Now Open Until 10 Pm
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has started to extend the operating hours of libraries and museums in Jakarta. This follows up on the plan of the Governor of DKI Jakarta who wants to open libraries and museums until the evening.
The extension of operational time began in two main libraries, namely the Cikini Regional Public Library and the HB Jassin Sastra Documentation Center (PDS). Both operate until 22.00 WIB every day.
"It's been running for the last two weeks, from 9 am to 10 pm. Previously it was only until 4 pm," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Library and Archives Service (Disputip), Syaefuloh Hidayat in his statement, Tuesday, May 6.
Syaefuloh said that the opening of operations until the evening will be carried out in other libraries in Central, East, South, West and North Jakarta. In the future, the DKI Jakarta Disputip targets all the libraries it manages to operate until 22.00.
"We want it to be open from Monday to Sunday until night. But of course while looking at the needs and readiness. What is clear is that the principle is to provide the best service for the people of Jakarta," said Syaefuloh.
However, the implementation of operational time extensions in all DKI Provincial Government management libraries depends on the readiness of facilities and human resources.
If service hours increase, personnel must automatically adjust. We are currently preparing a shift system for officers, and continue to evaluate public interest as the basis for adding open time," said Syaefuloh.
According to data from the DKI Jakarta Disputip, visits to the Cikini Library on weekends can reach more than 3,500 people. He said, libraries are now also public spaces that support social interaction, education, and art expressions.
"In the library there is a discussion room, writing training, storytelling children, even exhibitions by students. This is part of Jakarta's face as a literacy city towards a global city," he explained.
Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung guaranteed that the discourse on opening museums and libraries until the evening would not result in an swelling of the DKI Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD).
This is because the number of museum buildings and libraries that will be extended operating hours is not much. For example, libraries in Jakarta that will be opened until late at night are only 8 buildings.
Therefore, the operational costs of the building due to the extension of operating time will not cost a large budget.
"There are not many A accreditation in Jakarta, only 34.8 are owned directly by the Jakarta Provincial Government, the rest are in SMA, SMP, SD. Which is the 8th which will then fully become the responsibility of the Jakarta government and we will open it. For costs, it's very small," explained Pramono.
