Tanah Abang Station Iconic Transformation: PTPP Encourages Capacity And Comfort Of Passengers Of Up To 300 Thousand People Per Day

JAKARTA - PT PP (Persero) Tbk (PTPP) recorded significant progress in the Tanah Abang Station Phase I Improvement project, with the realization of development reaching 98.88 percent as of May 2025 faster than the 0.13 percent target.

This strategic project aims to turn Tanah Abang Station into a center for modern transportation integration, capable of serving up to 300,000 passengers every day. This increase in capacity is a response to the high volume of daily passengers in the Jabodetabek area.

The project worth more than Rp280 billion includes the construction of a new station building as well as a new railroad and the revitalization of existing lines along the 1,489 meter single track (msp).

During his visit, the President Director of PT KAI on May 5, 2025 appreciated the quality of the construction of the Tanah Abang station project and the progress of implementing operational activities in the field in accordance with the target.

PTPP's Corporate Secretary, Joko Raharjo, said that his party was proud to be able to take part in the project.

"The transformation of Tanah Abang Station into a modern and safe hub-intermodal station. Cross-contractor innovation and coordination are the keys to the success of this project," he said, in a written statement, Monday, May 5.

This project continued Joko involving three main contractors: PTPP for buildings and rail lines, PT Chikal Prima Rasa for electricity and signal systems, as well as PT KAPM for landscape arrangement and public facilities. Given that Tanah Abang Station is one of the busiest stations, work is carried out on window time (00.00-04.00 WIB) in order to maintain the smooth journey of KRL.

PTPP implements various construction innovations to support efficiency and work safety. One of them is the Wesel Roles method where this method allows fast assembly and transfer of wessel in a limited time, so that it is very effective to do on lanes and emplades that have a high level of train travel density.

With this innovative application, said Joko, the project will continue to run smoothly without disturbing the ongoing passenger service.
