Three Debt Collectors Who Robbed Motorcycles Arrested By Banten Police

SERANG - The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Banten Police arrested three people suspected of confiscation of motorbikes by claiming to be debt collectors.

The three perpetrators arrested each had the initials JN (35), NI (43), and SI (37).

"It is true, we have arrested three suspects who are suspected of confiscating motorbikes with a modus operandi as debt collectors," said Director of Criminal Investigation at the Banten Police, Kombes Dian Setyawan, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 5.

The arrests were made after the Banten Police Ditreskrimum received a report from the public regarding the activity of forcibly withdrawing motorized vehicles in the jurisdiction of the Banten Police. The report is recorded in the Police Report Number: LP/A/20/V/SPKT.DITRESKRIMUM/2025/Banten Police.

The arrests were made when the Ditreskrimum Resmob team conducted a patrol and found the three of them in action to take a motorbike from the victim's hand.

From the results of the arrests, the police also secured a number of pieces of evidence. Among them is a Honda Beat two-wheeled vehicle, two mobile phones, and a assignment warrant from a finance company, namely PT El Mina Langit Angkasa.

"The three suspects are currently undergoing further investigation and will be subject to Article 368 of the Criminal Code concerning the Crime of Extortion," said Dian.

The article regulates a maximum sentence of nine years in prison for extortionists, including those carried out under the pretext of debt collection.

Dian emphasized that the process of withdrawing vehicles by leasing or financing companies must be carried out in accordance with applicable legal procedures, not in ways that contain elements of violence or intimidation.
