Phreatic Eruption Throws Rocks And Mud In The Sileri Dieng Crater

BANJARNEGARA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Banjarnegara, Central Java, informed that there was a phreatic eruption in Sileri Crater in the Dieng highlands, Central Java.

"There has been an eruption of the type of phreatic eruption in Sileri Crater, Kepakisan Village, Batur District, Banjarnegara," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division Andri Sulistyo in Banjarnegara, quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 29.

The phreatic eruption occurred on Thursday at 18.25 WIB with a burst of material about 400 meters to the south.

"At this time the team is still conducting site visits and sterilization in order to anticipate further disasters," he said.

In addition, he said, the team had also carried out security considering that the road around the scene of the incident was very slippery due to the mud and rock material coming from the crater.

BPBD Banjarnegara urged people in the local area to remain vigilant and not panic and not easily believe news reports that were not yet clear or hoaxes.

"We urge residents to always be vigilant but do not panic and do not easily believe hoax news or fake news whose truth is not yet clear," he said.
