Iran Disrupts Yemen's Houthi Counterattack

JAKARTA - Iran's Foreign Ministry has firmly denied repeated accusations that Tehran was behind Yemen's counter-actions against Israeli aggression in Gaza, and called it "baseless and misleading."

"There is no doubt that the actions of the Yemeni people are independent decisions rooted in humanitarian principles and solidarity with the Palestinian people," said an official statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry as reported by ANTARA from IRNA-OANA, Monday, May 5.

The ministry said efforts to link Iran to Yemen's attacks were part of a strategy to cover up Israel's crimes in the Palestinian occupation region and seek excuses to destabilize the Western Asian region.

"In fact, the US military has started a war on the Yemeni people in order to support Israeli genocide in Gaza, and carry out attacks on infrastructure and civilian targets throughout Yemen," the statement continued.

Iran called for an immediate cessation of genocide in Gaza and stressed that the Israeli massacre of Palestinians was the main root of instability in the region.

The ministry also condemned the US airstrikes on Yemen which were considered a serious violation of the UN Charter and the basic principles of international law. Iran reaffirms its commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries.

In addition, Iran condemned the latest threat from the US and Israel against its country, and warned that both sides would be responsible for any consequences of the provocative act.

"The Iranian people have a strong determination to defend themselves as a whole against all evil and illegal actions that threaten national security and our interests," the statement said.

Since the start of Israeli aggression in Gaza, Yemeni forces have launched various attacks on occupied territories and targeted ships affiliated with Israel.

Over the past few months, the US has been attacking Yemen in efforts to stop Yemen's attacks on Israeli interests.

Both Washington, Tel Aviv, and their second allies continue to accuse Iran of being behind the Yemen operation - a accusation Tehran has repeatedly denied.
