Vacuum A Month, JLR Returns To Send Cars To The United States

JAKARTA Early last April, the global automotive world was rocked by the policies of the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, who set a new tariff for imported vehicles. This policy makes many automotive industry players have to think hard in order to maintain the existence of their products in the US market, including Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

The British automaker took firm steps by temporarily stopping exports to Uncle Sam's country. However, it didn't take long for JLR to get back on track. About a month after the decision, the company decided to continue sending vehicles to the US market.

Reported by Reuters on Monday, May 5, JLR's first shipment to the United States was resumed on Wednesday last week, marking the return of the British brand to a very strategic market.

"The United States remains an important market for Jaguar Land Rover, although we face an import rate of 25 percent," said a spokesman for JLR.

He also added that the company is currently formulating a short-term to long-term strategy with business partners, in order to remain competitive amid the new regulations. Further information on annual financial performance will be announced in May.

This fast step cannot be separated from the importance of the US market for Jaguar Land Rover. Throughout March 2023 to March 2024, JLR sales in the US contributed nearly a quarter of the total 430,000 units sold globally.

Even so, JLR still has enough stock of vehicles in their dealer network in the US to meet demand in the next few months. This means that the impact of the new tariff policy will not be felt immediately at the consumer level.
