Not Only Indonesia And Thailand, BYD Also Builds Factory In Cambodia

JAKARTA - BYD seems very serious about building business networks abroad, after planning to build factories in Thailand and Indonesia, now the brand is starting to build factories in Cambodia.

Quoting from the CNevpost page, Monday, May 5, the groundbreaking ceremony took place at Cambodia's first NEV production facility, which was held at the end of April, marking the start of development.

The factory was built in a fairly large area, where the area is up to 12 hectares. Later, the first phase will produce pure battery powered electric vehicles or BEV and PHEV.

It is hoped that the new BYD plant (in Cambodia) will start operating in the fourth quarter of this year, with an annual planned capacity of 10,000 units.

According to a report from local Cambodian media, The Phnom Penh Post, the plant is expected to be completed in October and the first BYD vehicles assembled in Cambodia will launch from production lines in early November.

The market for electric vehicles in Cambodia is still relatively small but is growing rapidly. A total of 2,253 electric vehicles registered in Cambodia in 2024, an increase of 620 percent from the 313 registered in 2023.
