The Design Of The IPhone 18 Pro Will Make You Curious If This Rumor Is True

JAKARTA - Apple is known to consistently pursue a truly full-fledged iPhone screen vision without compromising features like Face ID or front cameras. The journey towards the vision has brought major design changes over the years, and the next step seems to be bringing a pretty unusual design decision, especially if these latest rumors are true.

From the first iPhone to the iPhone 7, Apple uses thick enough top and bottom bezels to accommodate Home buttons, speakers, proximity sensors, and front cameras. However, starting 2015 '2016, this design is starting to look outdated, especially when Android phones are running low on bezels and moving fingerprint sensors back or side.

Apple answered the challenge via the iPhone X in 2017, introduced Face ID and replaced Touch ID and presented a notch that cut the bezel size. Since then, notch has improved, until it finally turns into Dynamic Island as it is on the current iPhone 16.

IPhone 18 Pro Ready To Bring Breakthroughs

The design of the iPhone 17 that will be present this year is not expected to bring major changes in terms of bezels. However, significant changes will begin in 2026 and 2027. Apple is reportedly planning to move Face ID components below the screen in 2026, removing the "pill" form of Dynamic Island.

With the loss of Face ID elements from the surface of the screen, the iPhone 18 Pro will only have one small hole for the front camera. Interestingly, according to a recent report from Wayne Ma (The Information), this camera hole will not be in the middle, but in the upper left corner of the screen.

The design of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max is rumored to only have one small hole at the top left for the front camera, according to sources with direct knowledge of this project. This design becomes a bridge to the iPhone 2027 to coincide with the first 20 years of the iPhone being designed without a hole at all as the front camera will be completely hidden below the screen.

Although not the first to use the front camera position in the left corner, this step is quite a surprising decision from Apple, which is known to maintain design symmetry.

Although currently the iPhone front camera isn't really in the middle of the top (the position is slightly to the right), Apple makes it look symmetric with Dynamic Island combining visual elements in balance.

For the iPhone 18 Pro later, Apple could extend the view of the Dynamic Island interface to the left to "accommodate" the new camera position and expand space for live activity indicators or notifications. But still, placing the front camera at the top left is a large design shift from Dynamic Island currently in the middle.

If these rumors are true, the iPhone 18 Pro will mark Apple's big move towards a screen without visual interference, with design decisions that may trigger pros and cons. For fans of Apple's minimalist design and custom symmetries, this could be the start of a major change in the iPhone design philosophy.
