Telkom Pole On The North Gorontalo Coast Collapsed Due To The Pohuwato Earthquake

JAKARTA - Coastal residents in North Gorontalo suspect the 6.0 magnitude earthquake centered in Pohuwato has caused telecommunications network poles around their settlements to collapse.

"The earthquake felt very strong. We ran out of the house and found a pole collapsing. This is probably a telecommunications network pole that collapsed after the earthquake," said Yessy Peraka, a resident of Tomilito District, North Gorontalo on Saturday night.

He said the pole collapsed towards the road body so that it was quite disturbing for passers or motorists.

"The driver must be extra careful because the potential will get stuck at the pole," he said.

The collapse pole is on the main road across Sulawesi in Kilo Meter Lima Hamlet, Dambalo Village, Tomilito District.

"The cable is decomposed on the road, the end of the pole leads to the road, so it is feared that passing vehicles could get stuck if they drove," he said.

He documented the position of the pole collapsing and the cable decaying on the road to be known by residents, so that unwanted accidents do not occur.

A resident of Titidu Village, Kwandang District, Nifa Majid, said the earthquake was felt in the area.

"We ran out of the house because the earthquake shocks were felt and took a long time," he said.

Head of Gorontalo Geophysics Station Andri Wijaya Field said the Wanggarasi Area of Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province was rocked by a tectonic earthquake.

The results of the BMKG analysis show that this earthquake has an updated parameter with a magnitude of 6.0.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 0.57 degrees North Latitude; 121.68 degrees East Longitude, or precisely located on land 32 kilometers northwest of Pohuwato, Gorontalo at a depth of 98 km.

By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was an intermediate type due to deformation activity in the Sulawesi Sea plate.

The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has an oblique thrust fault mechanism.

This earthquake, he said, had an impact and was felt in the Boalemo and Pohuwato areas with an intensity scale of IV MMI. Regions of Gorontalo, North Gorontalo, Manado, Tarakan, Nunukan, Bolaang Mongondow, South Bolaang Mongondow, Southeast Minahasa, Toli-toli, Luwuk and Berau with an intensity scale of III MMI.

"The movement was felt real in the house. There was a vibration as if a truck had passed. The Palu and North Morowali areas had an intensity scale of II-III MMI," he said.

The modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami.
