Spotify Make Podcast Content Subscribed To Competing With Apple

JAKARTA - Spotify plans to subscribe its podcast content. This is based on the company's desire to fight and compete with Apple.

The music streaming service offers a better deal than Apple in the United States (US), where creators or podcasters can keep all of their income for an indefinite period of time.

Summarized from Japan Today, Thursday April 29, later, Spotify's podcast content will be updated and set to expand internationally in the next few years, and make special content only available to subscribed users.

According to Spotify, this decision won't burden any podcasters over the next two years, meaning they get all the revenue from subscribed users. Spotify plans to start charging a five percent fee for podcasts starting in 2023.

"Our goal is to help podcasters maximize their subscribed audience and grow them from their existing audience base," says Spotify.

Spotify and Apple are in a Tight Competition

The announcement comes as Apple is ready to add subscription options to its pioneering podcast service as it increases competition with Spotify.

Apple says, starting May, podcast fans around the world can sign up for perks such as ad-free listening or exclusive content from podcasters.

Podcasters will receive 70 percent of the subscription revenue in the first year, and Apple will remember the rest as commission. After subscribers have subscribed for a year, the share of content creators will increase to 85 percent.

The subscription feature comes with an overhaul of the Apple Podcast platform that gives credit for starting a trend with its launch 15 years ago.

Industry tracker eMarketer stated last month that Spotify has been growing rapidly and its podcasting service is on track to have more listeners in the US than Apple Podcasts this year.

Spotify insists its subscription platform will start with a dozen podcasters collaborating with the non-profit media organization National Public Radio.
