Minister Of Agriculture Amran Does Not Accept Entrusted Officials Even Though It Is His Own Family
JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized his commitment to implementing the meritocracy principle (performance assessment based on achievements or abilities) as the main basis for the appointment of structural officials at the Ministry of Agriculture.
This statement was made in his remarks when inaugurating a number of Primary High Leadership Officials at the Ministry of Agriculture Headquarters, Jakarta, Friday, May 2.
"This was yesterday, I should have sparked it. However, last night my brother sent a short message giving a recommendation. I immediately decided to cross out and not inaugurate it this morning," he said in his statement.
For him, there is no room for an effort to 'take office,' both from his family and other influential parties in determining the position in the ministry he leads. He opened up opportunities for all, regardless of echelon, to move up as long as he had a real contribution to the agricultural sector.
Position is a mandate and must be held by a decent person based on performance, not closeness or personal relationship. If I appoint someone who is entrusted, how do thousands of people feel competing in a healthy manner? This is a ministry, not a family company," Amran said.
Amran said this policy emphasized that the appointment of positions must be based on qualifications, competence, performance, integrity, and morality, regardless of personal background or close relationship.
"Anyone can get promoted as long as they are able to work well. All performances are measurable and I immediately evaluate them. If they are lazy, it is better to resign. The state cannot wait. If they take office, they must work hard," said Minister of Agriculture Amran.
