Harry Maguire Gets New Nickname 'Harrydinho'

JAKARTA - Harry Maguire welcomed his new Brazilian-inspired nickname after the unexpectedly mid-back's trick on the wing helped Manchester United win a stunning 3-0 victory over Athletic Club in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final at San Mates, Friday, May 2, 2025, early morning WIB.

Maguire found himself in an unknown territory in the far right, but looked like at home as he turned around and outwitted the opposing defender before giving Manuel Ugarte an accurate cross to Casemiro to open the scoring in the 30th minute.

This caused social media users to call him 'Harrydinho'.

"It was brilliant. I'm sure there are some nicknames out there for me."

"It's nice to be able to dribble a little out there and of course release a great cross."

"There were a lot of players in the penalty box, so they definitely believed I could release that cross."

"It was a fun feeling and Casemiro put it in, it was a great header in the end," Maguire told TNT Sports when he was told about the nickname.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was also impressed by the action of the centre-back.

"He's a good winger! Sometimes there are times in our lives and Harry has had difficult times."

"Everything he does is good for the team, so we have to enjoy it," Ruben Amorim told TNT.

Other Manchester United goals, all in the first half, came from Bruno Fernandes. His first goal came from the penalty spot after Rasmus Hojlund was brought down in the penalty box by Dani Vivian and a penalty was awarded after a VAR review.

Vivian was given a red card for the violation.

After a bad season in the Premier League, they are in 14th place, the result puts Manchester United in the main position to reach the Europa League final.

The Europa League trophy will guarantee a place in the Champions League next season.

"Of course it's a good start, to win here and score three goals and without conceding."

"All the pressure will be on us, everyone will hope we qualify. We need to prepare ourselves well."

"If we do, we will give ourselves a great chance. One leg in the final, but it's not finished yet," Maguire said.
