BMKG: A Number Of Big Cities Potentially Showered With Light Rain Today
JAKARTA The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts light rain will hit a number of major cities in Indonesia on Friday, May 2, 2025. Cities such as Medan, Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, and Jayapura are said to have the potential to experience light rain.
BMKG weather forecaster, Rira A Damanik, said that on the island of Sumatra, light rain is expected to occur in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, and Tanjung Pinang. Meanwhile, Bandar Lampung has the potential to be thick cloudy.
"Be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in Palembang," said Rira, quoted from ANTARA.
On the island of Java, the weather varies. Serang has the potential to experience running air, Bandung is covered in smoke or fog, and Yogyakarta is forecasted to be thick cloudy. Jakarta, Semarang, and Surabaya have the opportunity to experience light rain.
For the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, air escape is predicted to occur in Mataram, smoke or fog in Denpasar, as well as thick cloudy weather in Kupang.
Meanwhile, on the island of Kalimantan, the weather tends to be damp. Thick clouds are expected to occur in Banjarmasin, light rain in Pontianak and Palangkaraya, as well as moderate rain in Samarinda. BMKG also appealed to the potential for thunderstorms in Tanjung Selor.

For eastern Indonesia, BMKG predicts smoke or fog in Ambon. Light rain is expected to occur in Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura. Moderate rain has the potential to flush Jayawijaya, while rain accompanied by lightning is expected to occur in Nabire and Merauke.
