The Minister Of Manpower Asks To Make Labor Day A Momentum To Collaborate
JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli invites stakeholders, namely the government, the industrial and business world, as well as workers to increase strategic collaboration in the commemoration of International Labor Day (May Day) 2025.
"Together we make May Day to collaborate with each other. The collaboration can start with gathering like today, understanding each other's aspirations and desires and we are looking for the best solution," said Minister of Manpower Yassierli on the sidelines of an event titled May Day 2025: Moving Together to Improve Workers' Welfare and National Productivity at Pertamina University Jakarta, Thursday.
Yassierli assessed that strategic synergies between relevant stakeholders are important to answer employment and industrial challenges in the near future.
He said that uncertain global economic conditions, coupled with other issues, would have a direct impact on this sector.
"The challenge related to welfare, improving labor regulations, law enforcement to be upright in the industry, is not easy (to do) because Indonesia is so wide and complex," said Yassierli.
"Now how are we prepared to deal with things that are increasingly changing in the work structure and challenges ahead," he added.
In addition, the Minister of Manpower also highlighted the large number of informal workers such as online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) and online couriers in Indonesia. He considered this a challenge to ensure they had social protection.
Informal workers such as online motorcycle taxis and couriers are quite large and significant. We need to make sure the social protection, and (predicted) informal workers will increase in line with IT's development," Yassierli said.
Not only that, he continued, the wise use of artificial intelligence or AI, and global demands for a green economy also need attention so that workers in Indonesia can be adaptive and competitive.
"We have to face this together and we have to answer it in collaboration," said the Minister of Manpower.
