Russia's Mission To The United Nations: Trump Sincerely Wants Peace In Ukraine

JAKARTA - Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy told RIA Novosti that US President Donald Trump sincerely wanted to end the conflict in Ukraine, and Moscow was grateful for all its efforts.

"I think he really wants peace in Ukraine, and he really puts great efforts into making it happen. And we are very grateful to the new government," Polyanskiy said when asked to evaluate the outcome of President Trump's peace negotiations in Ukraine in the last 100 days.

The diplomat also said "very important" the US appeared to "understand the root causes of the Ukraine conflict in the right way."

On Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov by telephone to underscore the next steps in peace negotiations between Russia-Ukraine and the need to end the conflict now as well.

The telephone conversation follows the visit of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow, where he was greeted by Russian President VladimirPutin.
