Prabowo Forms Labor Welfare Council To Remove Outsourcing

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto announced the establishment of the National Labor Welfare Council, as an instrument to support the removal of outsourced systems or power transfer workers.

The announcement was made during the commemoration of International Labor Day (May Day) which was held at Monas Square, Central Jakarta, Thursday, May 1.

"As a gift for the workers today, I will soon form the National Labor Welfare Council," President Prabowo said in front of thousands of workers present.

Presiden Prabowo Subianto menyampaikan Dewan Kesesejahteraan Buruh Nasional merupakan badan yang akan melibatkan tokoh-tokoh pekerja dari seluruh Indonesia.

This council, he continued, will be tasked with giving advice to the President regarding the improvement of laws and regulations that are considered not in favor of workers.

In addition, President Prabowo also emphasized his support for the proposed removal of the outsourcing system, which has been in the spotlight of the workers.

He said the Labor Welfare Council would also study in depth the transitional mechanism towards the elimination of the system, while still considering the investment climate.

"We want to delete outsourcing. But brothers, we also have to be realistic, we have to protect the interests of investors as well. If they don't invest, there are no factories, you don't work," said the President.

Other steps also announced include the establishment of a layoff Task Force (Satgas) to anticipate unilateral termination of employment, as well as accelerate the discussion of the Housework Protection Bill and the Bill on the protection of marine workers as well as the fisheries sector.

President Prabowo underlined that the state would not remain silent if there was injustice to the workers.

"If necessary, the state will intervene," he said.
