Sufmi Dasco Ahmad: Government Encourages Wages To Increase By 10 Percent

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, emphasized parliament's commitment to become a bridge for workers' aspirations to the government. In the gathering forum with the union federation which was held at Nusantara IV Building, Wednesday (30/4/2025), Dasco expressed support for the proposed increase in workers' wages by up to 10 percent.

This event was also attended by a number of important figures such as Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and leaders of labor confederations such as Elly Rosita Silaban (KSBSI), Said Iqbal (Labor Party), and Andi Gani Nena Wea (KSPSI).

In his speech, Dasco reminded the importance of cohesiveness between workers, the DPR, and the government facing global economic challenges. He called President Prabowo Subianto an aspirationate figure and was open to input from the union.

The president actually encouraged wages to be increased. He even asked to be counted not only 6.5 percent, but up to 10 percent, "said Dasco, greeted by applause from the participants.

According to him, increasing wages is not a threat to entrepreneurs, but rather a strategic step to boost people's purchasing power. With increased household consumption, the national economy will move faster.

Dasco emphasized that the DPR will continue to bridge communication between workers and the government, especially in strategic employment issues.

"Whatever threatens the economic continuity, teachers, workers, and the government must unite. We work together, for a brighter Indonesia," he said.

This gathering was held a day before the commemoration of International Labor Day (May Day), which falls on May 1. Dasco hopes that the cohesiveness shown in this gathering forum will not only be ceremonial, but will continue in real and open action.

"The government is open. I hope fellow workers also open their hearts. Everything can be conveyed, can be conveyed through the DPR, and we will continue," he concluded.
