1,123 Families Affected By Floods That Submerged 9 Villages In Barito Kuala, South Kalimantan

SOUTH KALIMANTAN - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that the floods that submerged nine villages in Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan (Kalsel), are currently being handled by a joint team from elements of the regional government and TNI/Polri officials.

"Floods still survive at several points with high water inundation, so handling continues to be carried out to help affected residents," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in a statement, Wednesday, April 30, which was confiscated by Antara.

The flood occurred due to high-intensity rain that flushed the area since Saturday 19 April at 16.00 WITA, with the current water inundation height reaching 50-120 centimeters.

In addition to submerging residential areas, he said, the flood also caused damage to 21 educational facilities, six health facilities, 10 houses of worship, 13 government offices, nine public facilities, and three units of business premises, including roads more than 11 kilometers, were also affected.

The Barito Kuala BPBD rapid reaction team recorded the affected areas including Kuripan District, which includes nine villages namely Jambu, Jambu Baru, Kabuau, Asia Baru, Jernang, Kuripan, Rimbau Tulang, Tabatan, and Tabatan Baru.

Abdul said as many as 1,123 heads of families (KK) were affected by the flood, of which 15 of them were displaced and were assisted by a joint team of officers.

A number of urgent needs reported include logistics, medicines, clean water, buoys, building materials, as well as special needs for infants, pregnant women, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

"This rapid assessment and assessment of urgent needs was carried out by the Barito Kuala Regency BPBD team and coordinated with the authorities," he said.
