Working Meeting With DPR, Minister Of Industry: Every Morning We Pay Attention To Is There A New Trump Policy
Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said, every morning the Indonesian government must pay close attention to the latest developments regarding tariff policies set by the United States (US).
The goal is to find out if there are any changes to the policy US President Donald Trump said on April 2, 2025.
This is because the existence of tariff policies makes global economic conditions uncertain.
"We always have to be careful. Every morning we have to pay attention to whether there is a new policy that appears or is determined by Trump and this is what causes very high uncertainty," Agus said in a working meeting with Commission VII DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 29.
"And the Indonesian government must always be ready to be able to prepare measurable and directed policies in the face of uncertainty caused by policies from the Trump Government," he continued.
Agus explained that the total export of Indonesian manufacturing products to the US was only 9.94 percent or US$264 billion.
Although only 9.94 percent of Indonesia's total exports to various countries, this number is able to contribute to a large trade surplus.
Thus, Agus admitted, the US position is very important for Indonesia's trade.
"We have to admit that America is important, because we have recorded a trade surplus (with) America of around 14.34 percent, although the total export of manufactured products to America is only 9.94 percent," he said.
"But the contribution of the global manufacturing export surplus from the US is almost half. So, 46 percent of our trade surplus comes from trading with America," he continued.

In simple terms, Agus said, Indonesia's trade activities with other countries were mostly deficits.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's exports, which are only 9.94 percent to the US, can contribute 46 percent of the trade surplus with various countries in total.
"So, America is very, very important. A market that we really have to protect. And therefore, the government is very concerned so that the uncertainty that applies in the formulation of the American Government will not burden Indonesia's economy through our export-import activities against America," he concluded.
