Workers Center May Day Commemoration At Monas

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) Jumhur Hidayat stated that President Prabowo Subianto and 150 thousand workers from various labor unions/labor unions will attend the commemoration of Labor Day/May Day, May 1 at Monas, Jakarta.

"This is a historic event after 60 years ago, Indonesian President Bung Karno was present at the Labor Day event," said Jumhur as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 29.

According to Jumhur, the workers welcomed the plan to attend President Prabowo Subianto at the Commemoration of Labor Day or May Day, with 150 thousand workers from Jakarta, Banten, and West Java (West Java) meeting the Monas field, Thursday.

He said participants from West Java and Banten would use 3,000 buses to attend Monas, while from Jakarta, especially North Jakarta and East Jakarta, many will carry out motorcycle convoys.

President Prabowo is scheduled to give a speech at 10.00-11.00 WIB.

"This is a historical moment for the Indonesian labor movement, which provides a clear way for the welfare of workers and the revival of the industry in the country," said Jumhur.

He emphasized that the May Day or Labor Day event is a warning in a series of struggles to oversee various regulations related to the welfare of the workers, as well as the revival of industry in Indonesia in various sectors.

According to him, the presence of the President who is the highest head of government, who is also the holder of power, makes laws or other regulations very meaningful for the workers.

"This warning feels very different from the previous warnings," said Jumhur.

According to him, the workers who are members of 48 trade unions/labor unions demand the government to immediately perfect the Employment Law which is fairer for all.

They also demanded that the government immediately issue the Law on the Protection of Domestic Works, Ratification of the ILO 188 Convention on the Protection of Capture Fisheries Workers, and form a task force.
