6 UTBK Day, Committee Finds 50 Cheating Perpetrators And 10 Jockies
JAKARTA - The 2025 National Selection Committee for New Student Admissions (SNPMB) recorded 50 perpetrators of fraud, as well as 10 jockeys in six days of the 2025 Computer-Based Writing Examination (UTBK).
"The number of participants involved is approximately 50, the number of jockeys is approximately 10 involvement," said Head of the SNPMB 2025 Committee Responsible Team Eduart Wlok as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 29.
Eduart explained that the modes of fraud that occurred varied, ranging from installing assistive devices such as installing cameras on glasses, microphones and loudspeakers in hearing aids, to using software through screen recording applications to using remote control applications or desktop remote control applications on computers used by participants.
He explained that the use of the desktop remote application is accompanied by the installation of a proxy on a computer, so that the computer can be connected to the outside network.
Eduart emphasized that this had been anticipated by the UTBK committee in each location by providing metal scanners or metal detectors. However, more sophisticated technology has been used by fraud actors, so there are still a number of fraudulent modes that have escaped.
"Of course at this point it could be indicated that it was already at the UTBK location where we found that there was involvement of insiders," he said.
Eduart explained that the mode of fraud was practiced by giving answers to participants who were in the exam room in various ways
"So, the participants are in the exam room. Then a tool is installed in the participating body as a receiver and also a transmitter for the communication transfer of answers. So the participant continues to operate the PC with answers sent from outside," he said.
In addition, Eduart revealed that another mode of cheating was to replace participants in the exam room, or what is often known as a "joki".
Some of the things that are obtained in this case, he said, are falsification of participant photos, documents such as Class XII certificates and diplomas so that jockeys can enter and take the exam to replace the original participants.
"This is interesting, a cross-provincial jockeying network. So cases could be obtained (in one of the UTBK locations), once traced, the communication that was built came from this city, this city, and this city," said Edurt.
The committee deeply regrets this, because the implementation of UTBK is based on the principle of trust in all students in Indonesia to get a better education.
The committees at each UTBK location have coordinated with the authorities to carry out further processes related to this matter, although it has not been decided what sanctions are appropriate to be given to the perpetrators in order to have a deterrent effect.
Eduart hopes that all participants and guardians of participants will continue to participate in this series of 2025 SNPMB processes honestly and not commit various acts of fraud that tarnish the sacredness of this test procession.
"If all the participants agreed to use honest and integrity methods, there is no need for things like this," said Eduart Wlok.
