VOI Today: Amazing Gibran Proposed To Be Impeached, What's Wrong?

JAKARTA - The issue of impeachment of Gibran emerged from the Retired Forum of TNI Soldiers since February 2025. The forum consisting of 103 retired generals, 73 executives, 65 marginals, and 91 colonels submitted demands to the MPR to dismiss Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

A number of Retired TNI employees have classy positions in the previous government. They are Indonesian Vice President of the Soeharto Era in 1993-1998, Try Sutrisno and Former Minister of Religion, Fachrul Razi who only served as Minister of Religion for 1 year in the era of President Jokowi.

So, can Gibran be impeached? In Indonesia, there were 2 state leaders who were removed before their term ended. They are President Soekarno and the 4th former President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gus Dur. Both were impeached before the third amendment to the 1945 Constitution.

The rules for dismissing the President before the amendments are stated in the 1945 Constitution along with his explanation in the Decree of the MPR No. III/MPR 1978; MPR Decree No. VI/MPR/1973. Meanwhile, the rules for dismissing the President after the third amendment to the 1945 Constitution are contained in Article 7A, Article 7B, Article 24C paragraph (2) and Law no. 24 of 2003 concerning the Constitutional Court.
