KAI Records Positive Performance In Pangandaran And Papandayan Trains

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded positive performance throughout 2024 until early 2025 through the operation of the Pangandaran (KA) Train and Papangdayan Train.

Throughout 2024, the Pangandaran train with the Banjar 'Gambir relation managed to serve 139,020 customers for the Banjar 'Gambir trip, and 181,070 customers for the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, the Papandayan train that connects Garut with Gambir also recorded brilliant results. A total of 165,319 customers enjoyed a trip from Garut to Gambir, while 121,432 customers were registered for the Gambir direction of Garut during 2024.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said that since operating on January 24, 2024, the Pangandaran and Papangdayan trains immediately attracted customers' attention. He also said this achievement indicates the high public need for integrated transportation access between regions.

"This is clear evidence that train services remain the main choice of people for community mobility in the West Java region, especially those who work or have businesses in Jakarta," he said in an official statement, Monday, April 28.

Anne said entering the first quarter of 2025, the positive trend continued. Pangandaran trains serve 35,270 customers from Banjar to Gambir, as well as 45,222 customers for the opposite direction. Meanwhile, the Papandayan train recorded 45,301 customers for the Garut 'Gambir route, and 36,943 customers from Gambir to Garut.

In addition to Regular Train services, one of the innovations that contributed to the high public interest was the presence of the Panoramic Train. At the Pangandaran train service, the Panoramic Train has attracted 19,648 customers throughout 2024, and 4,775 customers until March 2025.

"The view of nature presented from behind the Panoramic wide glass is an unforgettable travel experience," he said.

On the Garut 'Gambir route served by Papandayan Train, the Panoramic Train has even become the prima donna. Throughout 2024, 22,941 customers enjoyed Garut's panorama through this service, and 3,015 customers were recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

According to Anne, the high interest in Pangandaran and Papandayan train services shows the importance of the presence of a railway network that is increasingly evenly distributed in various regions. Wider connectivity is believed to be able to open new access, drive local economies, and provide a more sustainable mobility choice for the community.

Our spirit is to bring more quality services that connect more areas. Especially with the potential for the development of railway lines in West Java that continue to roll, we see great opportunities to expand the benefits of trains to the community," said Anne.

In recent years, the development of rail-based services in West Java has indeed continued to be a concern. The previously inactive routes are now starting to be looked back on to be turned on, in line with the growing mobility needs of the community.

KAI itself has prepared various steps to support service improvement, ranging from the procurement of new facilities such as 612 passenger trains and 54 locomotives, to the modification of existing facilities to provide more comfortable and modern travel.

As part of preparations for the electrification era, KAI has also added 29 new Electric Rail Trainsets (KRL), both domestically and internationally produced. This step is a reflection of KAI's readiness to answer future transportation needs.

"We believe, with plans to expand connectivity that continues to be encouraged, trains will be more relevant as the main choice of intercity mobility. Every new connected route, every station that comes back to life, will bring real economic, social and environmental benefits to society," concluded Anne.
