Apple Plans Big Change To IPhone For 20th Anniversary In 2027
JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly planning a major change to the iPhone in 2027, as part of iPhone's 20th anniversary celebration. Although details about this redesign are still limited, one thing that has been confirmed is that Apple plans to use more glassy material for this special iPhone model.
Design And Price Increase
The iPhone model, which will be released to celebrate its 20th anniversary, is likely to come at a higher price than the usual model. In addition, with the high tariff imposed on products from China, the price of this special edition of the iPhone could be even more expensive.
Currently, most technology sectors are exempt from high rates, but these exceptions won't last forever. Apple itself has the ability to produce iPhones in India, but they can't just move the entire iPhone production process to India. This process is expected to take time. Currently, Apple can produce "about a third of the annual iPhone demand in the US" in India.
China's Outer Production Challenges
Although Apple plans to increase iPhone production in India to circumvent current tariff policies, producing advanced technology outside China is still not entirely possible. According to Bloomberg, although the quality of iPhone production in India is now on par with in China, the iPhone model for the 20th anniversary is very complex and requires components and new production techniques that are not necessarily producing outside China by 2027.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously praised manufacturing expertise in China. Although the company wants to diversify production outside of China, it is currently still difficult to launch an up-to-date iPhone design without involving manufacturing in China.
The Tariffs And Impacts
To date, product import rates from China to the US range from 145% to 245%. If this tariff remains in effect, Apple's 20th anniversary edition iPhone will likely be affected by a significant price increase, which could reduce the attractiveness of this new model in the market.
With the challenges of existing manufacturing and threatening high rates, the celebration of iPhone's 20th anniversary in 2027 looks set to be an important but challenging moment for Apple. While the company is seeking to diversify production and avoid dependence on China, the current reality suggests that moving the production of advanced iPhones entirely from China is far from being realized.
