DKI Governor Calls MH Thamrin Statue Too Small

JAKARTA - The statue of the figure MH Thamrin at the intersection of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan and Jalan MH Thamrin is considered too small so it needs to be remade with a larger design and placed on Jalan MH Thamrin.

"The statue of MH Thamrin must be on Jalan Thamrin," said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in Jakarta, Sunday.

According to him, MH Thamrin is a figure from Betawi and is a symbol of Jakarta. For this reason, the statue that was made as a symbol should be in the Jakarta storefront, namely on Jalan MH Thamrin, not the others.

In addition, said Pramono, the statue is also too small to be a symbol of a global city so that in the future a bigger one will be built or made.

"We have to make big statues. Like the statue of General Sudirman. Because this is a symbol of Jakarta and MH Thamrin is the thinker of the Betawi people," he said.

Pramono said that he is Javanese but in Betawi culture he will fight for all the characteristics of Betawi to host in his own city.

Previously, it was stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) would still put a statue of MH Thamrin on Jalan MH Thamrin. This statue will be made new and bigger and strived not to use the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD).

"Because if using APBD funds is too long. We can use it from other sources such as CSR funds (social responsibility for the company), KLB (compensation funds from excess Building Floor Coefficients," said Pramono.
