Often Considered Trivial, This Condition Can Trigger Dementia At A Young Age
JAKARTA - Recent studies reveal conditions that can trigger a person to experience a decrease in the brain, one of which is dementia at a young age. This condition is metabolic syndrome.
Quoted from CNA, on Sunday, April 27, the study revealed that if the metabolism is disrupted, its effect will spread to the brain. Generally people with disturbed metabolism have large waist circumferences, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high blood triglycerides, to high cholesterol levels.
The data show that people with metabolic syndrome or a combination of these components, have a 24 percent greater chance of experiencing dementia at a young age.
"The most important thing from this study is metabolic syndrome significantly increases the risk of early dementia," said study lead researcher Dr. Minwoo Lee.
"Our findings highlight the importance of managing metabolic health from an early age to prevent dementia and maintain brain health," he added.

This finding also caught the attention of a preventive neuroscientist and research director at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases in Boca Raton, Florida, Dr. Richard Isaacson. He said dementia is a frightening disease and experiencing it at an early age is more worrying.
"Dementia is one of the most feared diseases, and is experiencing it at an early age and even more worrying," Isaacson said.
With the results of this study, Isaacson reminded young people to maintain brain health from an early age, one of which is by maintaining metabolic health.
People of all ages, 20s, 30s, 40s, and so on must be empowered to make healthy choices of the brain from an early age. I think this study provides us with more evidence that it shows that a healthy choice of the brain can produce a better brain from time to time," Isaacson concluded.
