Eastar Jet Launches Vegetarian And Halal Foods On Flight

JAKARTA - South Korean airline Eastar Jet, is expanding its on-flight food options to better serve global tourists, by introducing a halal certified vegetarian preorder and instant noodles for Muslim passengers.

The new offer includes meatball ragout paste made with plant-based meat and hoagie sandwiches filled with fresh vegetables and carrots, both aimed at vegetarian passengers looking for meat-free alternatives during international flights, reported by The Korea Times April 25.

As a form of respect for the need for a religious diet, Eastar Jet also launched chicken flavored halal ramen.

The airline said the product reflects Kazakhstan's religious profile, where more than 70 percent of the population is Muslim. It is known, Eastar Jet started operating two flights per week to Almaty, Kazakhstan earlier this month.

The move marks the first time Korean low-cost airlines have introduced halal food options, the company said.

Passengers on international routes can order the food up to 72 hours before departure.

"Our goal is to offer more inclusive food options for diverse travelers," said a spokesman for Eastar Jet.

"We are committed to developing in-plane foods that suit the cultural preferences and diets of passengers around the world," he added.
